    [Building] Visaton VIB170AL

    Hello,
I removed the topic, but opened a new one

I am going to build the VIB 170 AL!

    Now i called with connections

    Speakers: 165 euro
And the filter cost 40 EURO
    Totaal 205 EURO.

The shop didnt have the Elko 1.0uf.
Here is the list of the filter:

    2x Elko Spez. 1.0 UF = True bipolar smooth-foil capacitor 2,2uF 35V
    2x 10 ohm 5 watt = MOX 10.0R 4W 2%
    2x SP 2.2mh 1.0mm
    2x Elko Spez. 8.2 UF = True bipolar smooth-foil capacitor 8,2uF 35V
2x MKT 6.8 UF = MKT folie condensator radiaal 6.8µF
    2x 4,7 ohm 5 watt = MOX 4.70R 4W 2%
    2x SP 0.33mh 0,6mm
    2x 6,8ohm 5 watt = MOX 6.80R 4W 2%

    Is the filter okay?

Forum-related topics can never be considered spam. Just think about some other guy having the same question in propably half a year...

Good decision! I already finished a pair of them, nice speakers.

Why shouldn't it? Why are you so worried about the design of the crossover?

            Well, some parts are changed.
And i dont wanna lose quality, And i can ask to you experience builders?

And why is that? What are you actually trying to do?

Because the shop where i ordered doesnt have them in his program.

So thats why he sayd: Change this for that etc.

Well the list in the startpost is how he want it, = (changed)

                  "2x Elko Spez. 1.0 UF = True bipolar smooth-foil capacitor 2,2uF 35V"

2,2µF is wrong... 0,5µF (or 0,47) would be the right value. Capacity of two caps is only being added if they are wired parallel! 2x 1,0µF serially wired make 0,5 µF.

(wiring caps serially is like wiring resistors in parallel !!)

                    Can't get those,

But i can get this one:

                    MKP-C1 - Visaton MKP folie condensator 1uF 250V

take two of these or one MKT 0,47µF instead. in this case not so expensive, but better in long-life-stability.

                        That's ok.

Taking MKT or MKP instead of Elkos is absolutely no problem, they're just a little more expensive, but also better than Elkos. High-voltage stability is better with foil caps (MKT/MKP) and long-time stability is also much better (Elkos can sometimes dry out after some years). Foil caps are also said to sound better than Elkos, that's why foils are often used for the high-range filter in the crossover.

About the resistors: taking MOX (metal oxide) instead of normal ceramic-type resistors is no problem, and taking resistors with a higher power handling is also okay. (When you need a 5W resistor and take a 4W MOX, that's also alright...)
