    W170s/8 and g20sc

I have two W170s/8 ohm and i would like to build a decent loudspeker for HT. Can anyone help me with crossover.
I have found plans for W170S/8 and SC10n combination.
I was wondering how SC10N sounds compared to G20SC.
    Does G20SC improve sound alot.

    THX for replay.

    Hi Miha!

I hope that I do understand you right when I think, that you want to build a pair of speaker cabinets. Each including one W 170 S + tweeter.

I used BoxSim to simulate the project introduced here. I hope to have used this program correctly, I'm not very skilled in using developing software.

The enclusure is a floor-standing portet box with a volume of 34 liters and a tuning frequency of 34 Hz Some damping Material is put in.

The frequency response is quite smooth and the crossover needed is simple. And here are the screenshots:

And then I have replaced G20SC by SC10N and redesigned the X-over. It's a tiny bit more complex, because of the strange behaviour of SC 10 N.

But as I said, I'm not really sure, if everythin is done correctly. If someone wants to check it, i'll send the project files via eMail.

    regards

    Frank

      Frank, that's quite looking good.

But I've found a xover at the chech Visaton- site:

      As bass port a BR 15.34 is used, the whole box is about 33 l (950 x 230 x 230 mm).

W170S/8 + G20SC is called "Morion" and developed by Hobby Hifi. The xover looks almost like the one Benny posted. Google knows the details...

This X-over looks a bit quite simple. Could anyone make a simulation? Sorry, my PC is too slow at the moment because I'm archiving some very large files.

            Krass was 2cm Fase bringen...

I used Frankynstone's Xover for W170S + G20SC and added the R-C-Stuff for the W170S, similar to the one from the chech Visaton-site.

Dadurch ist die Impdeanzspitze weg, wenn sich jemand erbarmt das zu übersetzen...

So this is the way I'll Mod my Alto II *g*

ps: the differences in bass are that I used closed box with 35 L.

              I'll kinda "translate" ...

Strange what a bevelled edge of 2 cm results in.

I used Frankynstone's Xover for W170S + G20SC and added the RC stuff (impedance compensation for high frequencies where the tweeter works, not the woofer, editor’s comment), similar to the one from the chech Visaton-site. Thereby the impedance peak is flattened.

The R-C-Stuff compensates the impedance of the woofer to high frequencies. Let the compensation and the tweeter away, and the impedance goes straight up to the sky...

Besides, the compensation is put parallel to the woofer.

Oder hab ich dich falsch verstanden?

I hope that the final speaker will look something like this .
It will be 90 cm high and cca 30 cm deep. Internal volume will be 33l. Now i just have to decide which tweeter SC10N or g20sc.

If you are willing to spend the money and want to have the best result, use G20SC. It's really worth it.
If you want a cheap but good speaker use SC10N.

Die Möglichkeit der Alternative birgt die Gefahr des "was wäre wenn". Hier könnte gülden: Wer billig kauft, kauft zweimal.

                      Mihasi: Think after over this.

What he wants to say is: If you buy cheep, you might buy twice.

                        Don't try SC 10 N, it's mediocre. G 20 SC is woth its price.

                          G20SC!

I simulated the Morion from Hobby HiFi Magazine in Boxsim.
I don't know whether I made a mistake or it really doesn't look very well...

If the box looks like in the image you posted, it will sound rather like this:

(concerning the shape of the baffle)

Which crossover have you tried? Seems to be too much midrange because the tweeter makes something like stairs above 2 kHz and the woofer is not flat, too.

The highpass from my version combined with a fine tuned lowpass will make a flatter response. To remember:

If I remember correctly, there are some problems simulating the G20SC in BoxSim. (Somewhere in thread "Freeware Simu ...")
